National Middle Schools Forum
1) The effect of the new simplified national funding formula on middle schools
At our recent conference it became clear that many middle school heads are concerned about the introduction of the new simplified funding formula for schools. This has also been reflected in recent correspondence. Anecdotal evidence would suggest that many middle schools will lose funding under the new formula arrangements.
At our Steering Committee meeting in London yesterday it was clear that we need to quickly gather evidence of the national picture if we are to take these concerns back to the DfE.
I have devised a very short survey to collect evidence about the likely effect of the introduction of the new simplified formula on our schools.
I would urge you please to complete the survey in the next couple of days.
This will then enable us to consider what next steps we can take.
Please complete the survey - even if your school stands to gain funding under the new arrangements – so that we can better understand the true position.
Different local authorities are at different points in the process of agreeing the new funding arrangements – it would be helpful if you could let us have the most up to date information you have – even if has not yet been finally agreed.

The survey will close at midnight on Wednesday 14th November
I will hope to post a summary of the responses in the NMSF website shortly after this.
LA Papers – it would also be helpful to receive copies of papers relating to the plans in your area – (either by email by sending me a link to them)
