1)         Final Report – KS2 Review of Testing

The Final Report of the Review of KS2 Testing and Assessment has been published. It contains two recommendations which are potentially of great interest to middle schools. The first concerns the development of a measure of progress just for pupils in Year 5 & 6; and the other recommends strengthening the moderation and scrutiny of KS1 assessments, if they are to be reliable baseline measures for assessment.

I have written a brief report outlining these recommendations which can be downloaded from the ‘Reports’ page of the NMSF websites.

Download available here – click this link: http://www.middleschools.org.uk/reports.php

We need to consider how we might lend our support to these proposals.

2)         Time to Book your place at Conference

New – Four schools in Dorset have recently been inspected under the pilot for the new Ofsted framework for inspections to be introduced later this year.

Dorchester Middle School was one of these schools and the Headteacher, Paul Chadwick, has kindly agreed to lead two workshop sessions at Conference to share his experience with colleagues.
