National Middle Schools’ Forum Newsletter

September 2010

Are you wondering about academy status, federation or trust status……

Conference themes:

b) Reconnecting and strengthening aspects of our values and vision that are fundamental to middle schools

c) Celebrating 40 years of middle school education in this country – reconnecting with the founding vision of the middle school movement.

Key speakers:

Marcus Orlovsky, founder member and director of Bryanston Square

Tim Rylands, ICT to Inspire

Maggie Farrar, Strategic Director for Policy Research and Development, NCSL

2 ) Middle School Survey 2010

25 Headteachers have already completed the survey – which is already showing some interesting features of current middle school practice –

56% of the schools are considering academy status at the moment 15% of the schools have combined subjects to introduce a smaller number of more integrated areas of learning.

Please help by spending a few minutes completing the survey  - just click this link

The survey will have to close at the end of September.

The survey is web based and should be relatively straightforward to complete. We have tried to avoid questions that would require you to search for information – so, for example, we have avoided questions about the budget for this reason

The results will be launched at out Conference in October
