1) Co development project with QCA

At our 2007 Conference Mick Waters invited the Forum to work together with him and QCA in developing approaches to curriculum planning that ‘Made Learning Matter’.  A group of heads met with Mick in London to develop a clear outline for this work – a codevelopment project between NMSF and QCA had now been agreed.

This is an important opportunity for us to work closely with QCA, and Mick has agreed to return for our 2008 Conference to develop this work further.

I am in the process of arranging meetings for groups of schools who would be interested in participating. Meetings have so far been set up in Northumberland, Staffordshire, Somerset and Suffolk with more to be agreed shortly.

The NMSF website will shortly have pages dedicated to this project – until then you can download a copy of the project proposal from the Conference Reports page of the website. Please click this link –

If you would like to participate then please do email me in the next few days.

2) Database of Ofsted outcomes

On the NMSF website there is a database showing the outcomes of middle school inspections under the new inspection framework. The updated file now includes published inspection reports up to December 2007.

Of the middle schools in Dorset to be inspected so far, four have now been judged ‘Outstanding’ – excellent news for all middle schools – and our congratulations go to them:

·        Allenbourn Middle School, Wimborne

·        Emmanuel VA CE Middle, Verwood

·        Ferndown Middle School, Ferndown

·        St Osmonds Middle School, Dorchester
