Suffolk calls a halt to reorganisation plans

Citing future uncertainty over the future capital funding, Suffolk County Council have this week put off the planned phase three of middle schools reorganisation. This means that the planned changes for schools in Bury St Edmunds, Debenham, Thurston, Stowmarket and Sudbury have been put on hold. This is a decision which may have implications for changes planned in other areas of the country.

Suffolk County Council say on their website:

Suffolk County Council has announced changes to the School Organisation Review timeframe in light of uncertainty relating to government funding for future years.

However, due to the world economic crisis and recession there a public sector funding crisis is expected, and there could well be less money available for change programmes like this in the future. Because the government cannot provide any certainty about levels of funding for future years, the county council felt that as a prudent and sensible council it has to reconsider the timeline for the remainder of the review.
